It's all about networking - one of the two largest ways, research shows, for getting a job today.
So, stay in touch with friends and colleagues. Pay it forward when asked for a resource, contact, or assistance. Time is precious but if you carve out a little for a friend or colleague, that person will benefit and you never know how it will pay off down the road for you. Stay tuned for more about the other of the two most utilized methods for finding a job.

In light of the above, if anyone knows of someone to refer for the following position:
VP/SR Director HR, San Jose. Must speak Spanish. Chance to grow the Human Resources organization. Will relocate and a very competitive salary. Thanks ~

John Burrough said: " The lure of the distant and the difficult is deceptive. The greatest opportunity is where you are." This is what I post on my blog and Facebook this evening. Start where you are and build or transition from that point. Understand your values and what matters and build. If you don't know which direction fits for you, what decision to make, or what to add into your build "mix" next, seek some expert advice through a trusted mentor, colleague, or professional.

Entertain Your Passion at Any Age

This past weekend, I had the opportunity of introducing friends, family and local Blues lovers to Ray Goren. Ray is 13 years old and, as his dad told me, knows that being a Blues musician is what he wants to do in life. At three years of age, Ray started playing the guitar. At nine years old, he saw a video of B.B. King and told his family that he wanted to play like B.B. Well, earlier this year, Ray opened for B.B. King at Monterey's Golden State Theater. And, this past weekend, Ray performed for us all at the Theatre on San Pedro Square in downtown San Jose.

Now, not all of us will work in our passion or even want to. But, if we know what we are passionate about and dive into it, that passion will expand our lives. A dear friend of mine gave me a gift with this engraved on it: "May the beauty of what you love be what you do." Your passion may not be the "money making" part of what you do in life, but your life will be more enhanced if you create some space for it. Take time this week to reflect on what you are passionate about and add it into your life or add more of it into your life. You won't regret it!

Have a great week!

Ease Into Your Work or Job Search Week

I hope that you had a memorable long weekend. I was able, with friends, to participate in the honoring of the women and men of our country who have served in the Armed Forces and those 500 who have sacrificed their lives in California alone in the last two wars.

So, let's keep it short and sweet this morning, as everyone  eases back into the week. Here's a recent article in Fast Company "Can You Tweet Your Way Into a Job". See what you think. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

HAVING A PERFECT DAY

The best advice that I can give you right now - enjoy the rest of your day. Stop thinking about work or job search and do something fun, creative, listen to music, take a walk. Follow the advice that I learned from William Bridges, world famous Organizational Development consultant and expert on transition - take the time to renew and do something different. You will be that much better engaged when you come back to your work tomorrow. So, with what's left of your day and the weekend - make it a Perfect ending. Go Enjoy Yourself!

This week, I'm sharing a Fast Company article about how CEOs start their productive days. Remember, wee all do it differently depending upon our style and motivators. I work best in short bursts. This proves to be one of my most productive ways to operate. What about you? Discover what works best, honor your method, and have a great and productive week!
